French film-maker Luc Besson has said it was Scarlett Johansson's work ethic which seduced him into casting her for his new film.
In Lucy, Besson explores what would happen if we could use 100% of our brain power.
Johansson's character has a drug planted into her body which gives her superhuman mental powers.
Besson said the actress was an obvious choice for the role: "She's a hard worker - that's what seduced me.
"There is this image of glamour on the cover of magazines, it's a part of her, but her real personality when you meet her for the first time - she's on time, no make-up, no entourage.  It's about the subject, the part and the work."

Besson has directed a number of thrillers recently

When asked what he would do if he had superpowers, the Leon director said: "The first thing I would do is to put to sleep all the people who are building and using weapons - just chill out so we can enjoy our kids, enjoy nature and have fun. Not kill them, not punish them, just make them go to sleep."
Besson has reportedly had a number of requests to do a sequel to Lucy but told local media at the film's Taipei premiere: "I don't see how we can do one. It's not made for that. If I find something good enough, maybe I will, but for now I don't even think about it."
And the writer and director has remained tight-lipped on the plot of Taken 3, coming out next year and starring Liam Neeson once again.
He gave just one tantalising teaser: "What is the worst thing that can happen to this man? That's the film…"
Lucy is in cinemas from August 22.
